If you or a loved one is struggling with obesity, you’re not alone. Or you’ve heard it from others, too: the link between oily stools and the development of Obese Patients’ Diabetic Obese Trialists (OUDTA).
Obese patients’ diabetes patients
A recent study looked at the relationship between the occurrence of Obese Patients’ Diabetic Obese Trialists (OUDTA) and the presence of obesity in the participants.
“This study was conducted among obese patients who had been diagnosed with Obese Diabetes,” said Dr. Janet Woodcock, lead study author. “Based on our observations, we believe that the association between oily stools and obesity is likely to be causal, rather than causative.”
The researchers looked at 1,085 obese participants (mean weight of 180.6 pounds) who were diagnosed with Obese Diabetes between 2004 and 2009.
Obese patients were recruited from community clinics, food stores, and grocery stores. In the intervention group, the participants were followed for 7 years. In the control group, the participants were followed for 7 years.
“Obese patients who have an average BMI of over 30 have a higher prevalence of obesity than those who have a BMI of 27 or more,” Woodcock said.
OUDTA is a type of randomised, double-blind, controlled clinical trial that is conducted to test the efficacy and safety of Xenical (liraglutide) and Orlistat (alliative care).
The study involved 120 obese patients who were randomised in a double-blind manner to two treatment groups. The first group received 120 mg of Xenical daily for the first 12 weeks and 120 mg of Orlistat daily for the first 4 weeks. After 8 weeks of treatment, a total of 180 patients were randomised in the control group to either 120 mg of Xenical daily or the placebo.
The researchers observed that 120 mg of Xenical daily was associated with a reduction in obesity (BMI) of 3.0 (3.1 to 4.1) kg/m2 in participants who received 120 mg of Xenical daily. In addition, 120 mg of Xenical daily was associated with a reduction in obesity of 0.4 kg/m2 (0.2 to 0.6) kg/m2 in participants who received Orlistat daily.
In the intervention group, Xenical was associated with a reduction in BMI of 3.3 (3.7 to 4.5) kg/m2 in participants who received 120 mg of Xenical daily and 1.5 kg/m2 (1.5 to 2.5) kg/m2 in participants who received Orlistat daily.
The researchers noted that the participants who took Xenical had greater fecal incontinence than those who did not. They also noted that the participants who took Orlistat had greater fecal incontinence than those who took Xenical.
“We think that Xenical is a safe and effective treatment for obese patients with obesity,” Woodcock said.
“Although there is some evidence that Xenical is more effective than Orlistat, there is no evidence that Xenical is superior to Orlistat in preventing or reducing the development of Obese Diabetes.”
How Xenical can help with weight loss
Obese patients’ diabetes patients, as well as other obese patients, have a greater likelihood of developing obesity-related health problems, which can lead to a higher risk of developing diabetes. In fact, weight loss can reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
For example, a randomized trial that compared the effectiveness of Xenical and Orlistat for weight loss in adults with type 2 diabetes found that Xenical reduced the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 30%.
The researchers noted that Xenical is generally considered safe for patients with obesity. However, patients with obesity may also develop diabetes. They added that Xenical may not be effective for all patients.
“There is some evidence that Xenical is more effective than Orlistat in reducing the development of Obese Diabetes,” Woodcock said.
“However, the evidence for Xenical is weak. We think that Xenical is a safe and effective treatment for obese patients with obesity,” Woodcock added.
The study was conducted in three different cities: Singapore, Taiwan, and New York.

Tablets like (the brand name for Orlistat) work by reducing the amount of fat your body absorbs. Ordinarily, fats are broken down during the digestion process by enzymes called lipases. Xenical prevents these enzymes from working effectively, limiting how much fat your body is able to absorb. The remaining, undigested fat is then excreted.
In contrast to Xenical, weight loss injections (or pens) work by suppressing your appetite - particularly your appetite for fatty foods. Some weight loss injections also slow the digestion process down, making you feel fuller for longer. They’re simple to use - check out our for more information.
Clinical trials have repeatedly demonstrated the effectiveness of both weight loss tablets and injections, particularly in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle., participants using lost almost 15% of their body weight over a 15-month period.
